Youth and Social Media: Changing the World of Jobs and Skills

ICT and Digital Agenda
Politico_socialmedia
Date: Tuesday, 26 January 2016 18:00 - 19:50

Venue: Residence Palace, Brussels  |  City: Bruxelles

Social media have come a long way from just being where people watch funny cat videos. Now, people use platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn not only to hunt for jobs, but also to develop the skills they need for those jobs. Companies post openings; users post online tutorials; candidates carefully manage their personal brand online.

However, Europeans aren’t all equally equipped to exploit the full potential of social media. How can school and university education better train students to use social media – and should they? Are ‘back-to-work’ programs more effective with a social media dimension? To what extent are people who are not on social media at a disadvantage on the job market? How far must jobseekers go to create a full Internet presence and online brand? Join POLITICO for an in-depth and frank conversation on the impact of social media on jobs and skills in Europe.
