10:15   Panel Discussion: Should standards be mirroring reality or prescribing it? The case of energy and material efficiency

Both energy and material efficiency are complimentary means to reach the common aim of a sustainable society. Increasingly occupying contemporary product policy and standardisation discussions, this topic introduces the aspect of consumer behaviour, a key parameter determining the real life operation of products, but often a subject of neglect and speculation. Are consumers conscious or lousy users of products? This session aspires to bring evidence and experience from reality, with the view to contribute to substantial and enlightened discussions on product policy.

We will also discuss how to disseminate existing practice from one product group to others exploring the concepts of bio-based products partially derived from renewable biomass and the reusability of electric and electronic waste and recycling. The focus of the session will be on both material and energy recovery.

Introduced and moderated by Dania Cristofaro,ECOS
