Despite overwhelming efforts in protecting human lives, fires still remain an important cause of deaths worldwide. Of this, approximately 90% occur in the domestic area, mostly due to fires starting from our upholstered furniture such as sofas and beds.
In light of this alarming picture, how can we make sure that our furniture is fire safe for people, their belongings and fire fighters?
While several technologies exist to make sure that our furniture is fire safe, both with the use of flame retardants or through different technologies such as barriers between the foam and the fabric, European countries have so far lagged behind with the adoption of fire safety legislation on furniture.
It is against this background that the Flame Retardants Europe and Fire Service Academy (IFV) are announcing the Furniture Fire Safety Seminar as part of the European Fire Safety Week, that will take place on Thursday 21 November from 10h00 to 12:30 in the L42 Business Centre in Brussels. This seminar, will provide an overview of the technologies available to make our furniture fire safe and will frame the discussion over the need for improved fire safety standards and regulations across Europe.
Come and join panellists from the furniture industry, testing & research organizations and representative of the fire service, who will present their views about the need not to take fire safety in furniture for granted.
We hope you will be able to join in the conversation!
