Scotland and independence; out of the frying pan and into the fire?

Institutional and Political Issues

Date: Wednesday, 06 November 2019 17:30 - 19:30

Venue: Press Club Brussels Europe

In light of the complexity and drama in British politics following the Brexit vote, some have suggested it’s time to revisit the Scottish independence discussion. Scotland, a majority of its electorate having voted Remain, could potentially seek an independent European path.

However, is that really as simple as it sounds? What would that mean for Scotland, for the United Kingdom, and for the European Union? How would undoing a 300 year old union work in practice? Is there a unique Scottish vision for the future of Europe, at a time of change?

Our panel will bring together different views and independent expertise to try and find answers to these questions and more.

Panel:

Sheila Ritchie MEP (Liberal Democrats)
Christian Allard MEP (Scottish National Party, TBC)
Schams El Ghoneimi, former Brexit advisor at the European Parliament
Larissa Brunner, Policy Analyst, European Policy Centre

Moderator:

Hannah Bettsworth, Policy and Research Officer, Centre for European Progression
