Register now – 18 November Event in Brussels

On 19 November 2019, the Court of Justice of the European Union will hand down its judgment in three combined cases on Poland’s judiciary. Nominally about the disciplinary processes for judges, the ruling may have major impact on the independence and status of the National Council of the Judiciary, which plays a key role in the nomination of judges and acts as the guardian of judicial independence in Poland, among other roles.

This decision is the latest in a string of CJEU decisions on the Polish government’s attempts to transform the country’s judiciary.

Confused? You’re not alone. Join us for breakfast in Brussels on 18 November to get some answers.

The University of Groningen’s Barbara Grabowska-Moroz and Democracy Reporting International’s Jakub Jaraczewski will guide you through the background to the decision and its implications for Poland’s justice system – and the rule of law in the EU.

When? 9:30 to 10:30 am on Monday 18 November 2019

Where? KBR – The Royal Library of Belgium, Mont des Arts 28, Brussels
