Free Public Lecture Series - Dr. Dubravka Žarkov
Registration: https://dubravka19march.eventbrite.com
This talk addresses three specific feminist conceptualisations of sexual violence in wars: “genocidal rape”, “rape as a weapon of war” and “rape as a war strategy.” Besides their epistemological consequences, those concepts have been highly instrumental for the shifts within feminist and mainstream policy formulations, (humanitarian, military and legal) interventions in, and political and cultural representations of wars and violent conflicts.
Dubravka Zarkov is an associate researcher at the Radboud University Nijmegen and a co-editor of European Journal of Women's Studies. She worked as Associate Professor at the International Institute of Social Studies (The Netherlands). Her research focuses on gender, sexuality and ethnicity in wars. She published extensively on war violence and its media representations.
