Chaired by:
Michel Dantin MEP
Chair of the “Agriculture and Water Management” Working Group of the EP Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development”
In the context of the publication of the European Commission's long awaited Circular Economy Package, this meeting aims to highlight the contribution of Water to the objective of circularity, through the compelling example of water reuse.
Water reuse is defined as “re-use” of waste water and grey-water after an appropriate additional treatment for irrigation, industrial purposes, in households and others. It is one of the main targets of the new Circular Economy Package, which foresees a legislative proposal on minimum requirements for water reuse in 2017. Water reuse provides many environmental, social and economic benefits such as mitigating environmental stresses, improving food security and enhancing resource efficiency.
The discussion will focus on the various practices of reuse in the Member States as well as analyse the motivations behind reuse projects and the main outcomes. It will bring together policy-makers such as MEPs and European Commission officials, project managers, stakeholders and members from the civil society
