Long-term strategy to reduce GHG emissions

Energy, Environment, and Climate

Date: Wednesday, 10 October 2018 14:00 - 17:00

Venue: Hauts-de-France Region Mission to the EU  |  City: Brussel

The European Union has started a broad reflection on the strategy for long-term EU GHG emission reductions. Most of currently available simulations underline that this evolution implies a massive transfer of energy consumption towards electricity. Decarbonisation of the electric sector is therefore becoming a central objective of the European climate policy. However, several pathways remain open towards this decarbonisation process, which do not all lead to the same costs, neither for operators (investments needs, risks of assets impairment etc.), nor for consumers (electricity prices, flexibility constraints etc.).
In addition to the public consultation launched by the European Commission on this long-term strategy, Confrontations Europe wishes to collect the views of the actors on the front line of the upcoming transformation of the power generation fleet.
The seminar aims therefore at outlining the best possible trajectories to reach the objectives for 2050 at the lowest possible costs for the European community.
